Brown sugar and melons with an all-spice finish.
Eulogio Luque
Kantutani, Caranavi (1600m)
Fully washed Typica and Catuai
Saint Frank finds Kantutani to be one of the most compelling sites for Bolivian coffee as it can carry both the classic qualities as well as a fruity and herbal side as wild as the terrain itself. Cima del Jaguar has always shown balanced and versatile sweetness, but its herbal quality shines through in different ways. With more Typica it was more lemon and mint but now with more Catuai we love the orange and anise flavors.
Eulogio Luque was one of their first discoveries from Bolivia and remains a powerful memory in the first meaningful visit with the Luque family. Eulogio has been farming for 40 years from his youth alongside his brother Braulio, now cultivating both farms with his wife Marta. Two acres of their original 12 year old farm Catuai and Typica remains but a recent renovation of new Catuai plants and farming techniques shows great promise for this wonderful farm and family. This remote community (we also work with Eulogio’s sister Lydia and her husband Juan Jose) is one of our favorites for its potential and deeply rooted relationships making us exceedingly proud to share in the journey of these coffees for you.
